Questions

Does the person who finds them need an app?

No. Tapping the band opens a web page in the phone's browser. Most phones read it with the screen unlocked: iPhone XS and newer, and most Android phones with NFC switched on. Every band also has a QR code, so a phone without NFC can scan it with the camera instead.

Do they need an internet connection?

Yes. The band holds a private link, not your details, so the finder's phone needs mobile data or wifi to open the page. That's deliberate: nothing personal is stored on the band, and you can change or switch off what it shows at any time.

Is this a tracker?

No. There's no GPS and no battery, and the band can't report where it is. You only hear about it when someone taps it, along with the approximate area of that tap. The finder can share their exact location, but only if they choose to.

What if the band is lost or stolen?

Switch it off in your dashboard and the page goes blank straight away, so whoever has it sees nothing. Nothing personal is stored on the band itself.

Can I change the details without buying a new band?

Yes. The band only holds a link. Edit the details in your dashboard whenever you like and the page updates straight away, for as long as you use TapFound.

What does it cost?

The band is a one-off purchase. After that, the Free plan covers up to 2 bands, with email alerts, chat with the finder and one-time location sharing. Guardian costs £3.99 a month or £34.99 a year and adds SMS alerts, an escalation chain, masked calling, auto-translation, and more bands and contacts.

Who gets alerted when the band is tapped?

You get an email straight away, with the approximate area of the tap. Each emergency contact gets a text, and an email too if you add one, with a private link where they can message the person who found them and see any location they share. Contacts don't need an account.

Who can see the information?

Only someone who taps or scans the band, and only the details you've switched on. The link inside the band is random, so it can't be guessed, and you can switch a lost band off at any time.

Can I add a photo?

Yes, if you'd like to. It's optional and stays hidden until you switch it on. When you upload it, we keep a small copy and remove the details a phone hides inside photos, such as where it was taken.

Does it work for pets?

Yes. The round pet tag goes on a collar, and whoever finds your pet can contact you straight away. Their microchip number and medication show only if you switch them on. It works alongside a microchip, not instead of one.

How do I set up a band from a sealed pack?

Open the pack and tap the band with your phone. Enter the code from the card inside, create a free account or log in, and link the band to a profile. It takes a few minutes.

What language does the page show in?

The page's buttons and headings appear in the language of the finder's phone: English, Spanish, French, German, Italian, Turkish or Arabic. Anything you've typed yourself shows exactly as you wrote it.

Is there a TapFound app?

You don't need one. You set up and manage everything on the website, from any phone or computer, and the person who finds them never needs an app: a tap or the phone's camera is enough. We're working on an optional app for owners who'd like one, and everything will keep working without it.
